He is a public figure who could become a member. This is a case where the press is doing its job and investigating the story.
Do I care if a high school student drinks beer? No. Did he lie about this on purpose or just forget? I don't know, but it is important to know the facts.
Look at me. I'm the public figure now.
Did he lie about this on purpose or just forget? I don't know, but it is important to know the facts.
Or just plain wrong. When I was in high school everyone "knew" there were exceptions that allowed underage people to drink, such as "It's okay to drink you just can't buy it" and "It's fine as long as there is adult supervision". None of them were true, but nobody was motivated to look at it too closely.
That's a good point. I know the legal age is definitely for the purchase of alcohol, and there is such thing as minor in possession, but I do think consumption is allowed with parental consent and presence. Would it be legal to purchase in DC and then consume in Maryland? Interesting questions. It would be nice if we had reasonable laws about alcohol so we could instead focus on the real issues and stop wasting time with distractions.
At the end of the day, I don't care about any of this unless he was intentionally lying (which we'll of course never know).
The press really has to pick away at every little thing, don't they?
