Here’s a quick link search I did about steel jobs and statistics.

The statistic represents employment figures for the U.S. iron and steel industry between 2013 and 2017. In 2017, there were 83,000 employees filling steel mill and blast furnace jobs in the United States.

Seems 142,000 might be to high a #

Dont forget automation has taken over a lot of factory jobs.

You'd probably have to look back at steel jobs pre NAFTA to get an idea of how free trade has effected the industry, automation withstanding.
