It's cold today, but I have wood,
So into my boots I go.
Yesterday, I chopped what I could,
To build this morning's warm glow.
In the yard, I gather some from the stack,
Pieces from the middle, the ones not damp.
Into the stove they go, with some kindling to pack,
That they might ignite, with one single match.
It's cold today, but I have wood.
Now on fire, a cheerful glow.
It's cold today, but I have wood,
And I thought phuks should know.
When I lived on the island I relied on a woodstove for heat in the winter.
Getting up in the morning and having to chop wood was something I hated.
At first. After a while I got used to it, then enjoyed it. I learned it's nice to start the day with some exercise.
Now I live in the city. The only morning wood I deal with ..well, that's exercise too, I guess.
