I was trying to upload a photo I made for my sidebar image, but I titled it "phuksneedshelp" and apparently that is too many characters. My screen refreshed and my CSS entries were deleted.
You could catch the unload and intercept if things have changed. Give the user a chance to save. You'll have to catch for safari specifically though because, in their Infinite Wisdom(TM), they made safari different.

Uploading stuff will refresh the page, refreshing the page will undo anything that was not saved
