What's that thing?

Rope Fish.... really really hardy. eats a lot of my smaller fish... it's a circle of life in all my aquariums. I stopped buying small fish now though so he's going to have to get used to algae pellets and freeze dried blood worms...

FYI: bloodworms are extremely nutritious in protein. Most tetra style fish can't eat them as a part of their normal diet.

The blood worms are actually closely related to mosquito larvae

My last tank was 120 gal and I had two.... I noticed Rope Fish only need about 30-40 gals a piece. They like to be around a LOT of seaweed per-say. They grow to about 2 feet so even with 30-40 gals with enough weeds they'll thrive and live well. It's bullshit to say that a big one needs more because they're lazy bottom feeders, and if you feed one well he can survive in about 40 gals with other fish no prob.... they dance at night sometimes too which is cool. However make sure those blood worms and bottom feeder pellets are a plenty... or just buy them feeder fish if you aren't lazy. Mine is currently digesting a platty lol like a snake you can see their belly being swollen in the middle

Mine was 20 gallon, like 4 rounds of fish, and a plecostomus that lived for over a decade during all of it. I found out about tigerbarbs the hard way when they ate everything.

plecos are prehistoric and can live over thirty years... I've met one in the pet store that was so well trained they tapped the tank and he came upside down to the top to eat the food directly as it dropped... his name was oscar... which is kinda weird

edit: barbs have a name for a reason. they're kindof like little piranha they aren't friendly in most tanks... though they grow bigger

Nice, I used to have bichir but I ended up giving him to my friend because I was moving and her tank was huge, several months before she moved and I took her cat so it was a pet trade. They're really smart and actually will follow your finger.

those things are as evil as fish come... most fish can be trained... cichlids are very trainable. contrary to whatever people say fish are smart. Ghost Knives can even be coaxed into coming into your hand out of water... I've seen a pleco capable of this also
