OMG, could you imagine the ptsd these kids and the coach will have after this experience? Why can't they literally cut big chunks of cave rock away- literally dismantle the cave and get to them that way?

I'm not sure why they can't ... other than I read in an earlier article somewhere that it was a time factor. It would take too long, they thought, to drill down and rescue them that way. They route to get to them can't be fixed because of the water ... no matter how they widen it, they'd still have the water. Add to that that it's monsoon season and more heavy rains are expected. They're afraid the water will rise so that it will become impossible to get them out before they have no place to hide.

All around it's a sad story and very under reported for the situation.
