I've received all the MacBooks in the mail. I've thought about refining my strategy.

MacBook 1:

This was originally priced at $420. I've dropped the price to $389.99 and bought a $0.90 listing promotion which lasts up to 2 weeks. So far the listing has about 5 watchers. Things are looking on the up for this Mac.

MacBook 2:

Received this beaut in the mail the other day. Installed MacOS onto it.

It still needs a charger at the very least. I'm wondering it its worth forgoing the battery and selling at a reduced price. The math I've quickly worked out would be:

  • $150 + $20 base cost
  • $23 for a charger (if I were to buy two)

I could try attempt to sell this for $330 initially. That would be a $26 fee. So I'd be looking at $110 profit. If it doesn't sell I can order the battery and bump up the price.

I'm still thinking about this. The first scenario I had listed would sell it at $450. The specs weren't the same as listed. If I could get a partial refund that would be great.

It was listed as an i5 with a 500gb HDD. In reality it's a normal Intel duo core with a 250gb HDD. I'm not too affected by it but it might be worth pursuing.

MacBook 3:

Received this in the mail. This is cheap as chips. Paid $80 all up for it.

When I initially got it, the battery was ready to explode. https://phuks.co/_matrix/media/v1/download/phuks.co/mnjqdXGGkfCRCFPXRQoEIBsp

The trackpad was protruding with a massive bulge. I thought I'd have to dish out a solid $25 to get it working. But once I got the bomb out, the trackpad flattened out and is working superbly. It was just able to get pushed back into place now you wouldn't be able to tell there was a bomb in it.

This makes it identical to MacBook 2 in what it needs. I will end up making a killing off this MacBook if it sells to expectations.

To recap the costs of this are:

  • $65 + $15 = $80 base cost
  • $23 for a new charger
  • $55 for a new battery

= around $155

I'll be able to sell it for the same as MacBook 1 and 2. Some sweet sweet profit is to be expected from this.
