Chronic Lurker, finally found a place to contribute to.

My name is cowshit, and I'm a long-time lurker looking for redemption. Please clap.

Anyways, I've always lurked on various forums for years, but have never found a place that I felt compelled to contribute to. I like the vibe here, and I have high hopes that this platform can provide a civil place to discuss a wide variety of interests and ideas.

Like many I watched /r/all devolve into a tremendous pile of shit. The same thing happened to voat, both have become hyper-focused on a narrow range of views and ideas.

In the gin-soaked words of F. Scott Fitzgerald:

"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function."

I enjoy history, literature, economics, investing, cattle ranching, good horses, hunting, fishing, and civil discussions with people that I disagree with.

Welcome. You got here at the right time.
We're in the start of what we will later refer to as 'the good old days', and haven't yet entered the 'eternal September'.
The 'its all gone to shit' phase isn't even in sight yet.

I found voat years ago, and hated to watch it's evolution. It used to be a lot like this place. Hopefully this platform will attract a subset of users seeking balanced discussion!

Yeah, I think a number of us have been through this cycle before. Each time we fuck it up in a new way.
And each time we start over thinking 'It will be different this time'.

Yea, i'm afraid that it might just be the natural cycle of these platforms. I figured that I didn't help anything by lurking the last few go-rounds. So this time, what the hell, I'll contribute.
