Mainly stuck around voat for the shitposts and endless stream of news, from different random sources. Also, Phuks kinda seemed like a ghost town— even by voat standards. But, alas, times move forward. Gonna stick around here and gab, for a while. See which one grows on me. Mainly, I have a question involving this line, from the ToS:
Posting content of any kind that incites discrimination, hate or violence towards one person or a group of people because of their belonging to a race, religion or nation is strictly prohibited.
Seems to be the elephant in the room, for those who are apprehensively singing up, over the past 24 - 48hrs. Part of the reason that voat blew up, was due to the fact that you could discuss things that were beginning to be labelled "taboo", elsewhere. I've seen others, in my short burst of lurking, that they're posting things like, "fuck Islam" as a proof that this place isn't reddit 2.0. That's cool.
I'm just looking for clarification; I get that inciting hate and violence, and simply stating your hatred towards something, are two different things. But in the spirit of not coming in here to shit up the place, figured I'd ask first. If I just have to tone-down the shitposts and jew-memes, that's cool. If I have to tip-toe around saying anything negative about things that I sincerely believe in, because it might offend someone and get me banned— even if I'm being completely objective and reasonable, about my views, then you could consider this my last post. :/
Some of the things in our TOS are not things that we put there willingly. Banning gambling, for example, had to be done because it is not allowed under the TOS of our hosting provider. The discrimination line is lifted word for word from our hosting provider.
In over a year now, only a handful of posts/comments have been deleted by admins for breaking this specific part of the TOS. In addition to this however, you may also find that a fair portion of the people here are pretty lukewarm over the prospect of having the same highly political discussion present in every topic that exists on Voat, as this is one of the reasons people started using Phuks.
Personally, I enjoyed Voat a lot for about 6 months after the Reddit sub blackout happened. Then, a combination of the hate subs being banned on Reddit and the US election heating up made it pretty much impossible to avoid getting into very polarised political discussions about the US (a fair number of us are not even from the US here) over every single topic, whether it was relevant to US politics or not.
So far the line is not clear. We haven't really had a great deal of racial discussion or anything like that on the site, aside from a few people just coming here to cause trouble for the sake of it. As a general rule though, we have been careful not to advertise Phuks as a free speech/anything goes platform like Voat did, partly due to what it ended up doing to the level of content on the site, and also due to hosting provider rules.
