The idea is for a default popular culture sub to replace tv, movies, art, books, (maybe music , though that sub is big and probably the most active so no real reson too), ect from the defult list.
It would be a general purpose sub, kinda like whatever, but for popular culture to allow more selectivity (users who care about the topics subscribing to them specificly) and in the above mentioned subs. I think it will increase or atleast slow the decrease of quality of posts to the subs, if/when and influx of users come in.
(I'm an advocate of fewer defaults and forcing users to susbcribe to others subs. I think this would support that.)
I think it would be a mistake to mix these into one barrel. I think that would be more something for a user to start. (like Cheers on voat) The named defaults have big followings on reddit and apt posters. They are also very specific to their target, I know I am into Art and Movies but not that much into tv for example. Art is also known on reddit for OC content made by users. Imo we need these standerd interest subs to diversify our content from the "get go" . It is also a way to offer new users legit diverse content from the start and legitimize phuks
Music should remain a separate default, it's often used as a link hub to find other niche music subs to an(d it has a big following)
Some loose info: - We currently have fewer default subs then voat and reddit. - I made a task to remove religion and atheism out of the default pack. (we will keep the subs open under *phuks , to prevent people from derailing the subs) Been to lazy to check if this has been handled
- We have been discussing setting up prime defaults (auto subscribe) and secondary defaults (an option box to tick to subscribe) when you join
I do like your idea for a gathering of pop culture subs (leave music out though) So here's a thought, we could setup a pop sub that takes all the posts from tv movies, art and reposts them. This pop culture hub sub could be in prime defaults while the specific subs are in the secondary pack.
