Most states have similar programs but ours is called "Hunters for the Hungry". To date they have provided 25.5 million servings of venison. My goal this year is to bag 3 for charity and 3 for myself as we have a large family reunion coming up and I'm a bit of a chili connoisseur. I'll be out this weekend scouting my usual game trails to get a jump on the season. Whether it's hunting or not consider some acts of charity in your agenda this fall. It's going to make you feel better and can be quite fun.
edit: they're now up to 26.6 million 1/4 lb servings. The regulations section in the comments is out of date.
Y'all have a late start. Ours started on Sept. 8 and runs until January 13, firearm doesn't start until October 20th however. If I ever get the chance to go I'll probably end up donating the meat since my wife doesn't like venison.
