I agree about the humorous part. It used to be that propaganda only worked when it wasn't recognized as such. At some point some Mossad brain stood up in a meeting and said "You know, they might be less likely to bomb us if we just spam their websites with sexy jews holding guns." And thus a new age of self-aware propaganda was born
As for the rest, I don't think its about the US getting oil anymore. Rather, its about cock-blocking Russia from getting oil. Unfortunately that means more allied production isn't gonna satisfy the agenda.
