A healthy business doesn't go bankrypt in in days or weeks. Especially not one that is this old. I totally agree.
Remington Arms simply lost track of the market many, many years ago. They missed out on a huge opportunity when concealed carry, and handguns in general were the big sellers, and also in the modern era semi-auto rifle market both of which are where the money is today.
They were never a player in handguns, their last successes being in black powder cap and ball revolvers that competed with Colt. And the Derringers they once produced around the turn of the century. Since then, it's been a series of handguns that never interested the market and were basically failures. Big loss of possible revenue there.
At one time they had a decent line of hunting rifles and shotguns, but even they became not necessarily obsolete, but had flawed designs and went out of favor with the marketplace. And they never even engaged in the modern forms of semi-auto hunting rifles, another large market share today. They once had them ... but that goes back ages.
Now I'm not a big supporter of AR and AK type platforms, I'm more an old school collector and don't own one myself, nor have a yearning to, but if you want to make money, you have to follow the trends. Remington failed to do so.
So I was recently looking at 10mm 1911 reviews and was surprised to see the Remington R1 coming up in multiple lists. I didn't even realize they made 1911s, much less 10mm ones.
Of course given the low slow decline of Remington, I wasn't eager to try a 10mm 1911 from them...
I like how Reuters ties this into the current anti-gun marches when it's been in the works, and well known within the firearms community for months and months - LOL. Remington Arms, due to quality issues and lack of innovation, has been steadily going downhill for a long period of time, none of which has anything to do with the current political landscape.
