A couple of semi-related things from Goldeneye discovered through speedrunning:

The Depot Warp. On Depot, you need to finish a number of objectives before running to the train and completing the level. Before you can get in the train, the doors need to open, which takes a few seconds so you need to wait for them. But people figured out that by shooting the train, guards would open the door before you got there so you wouldn't need to wait. It was long theorised that you could clip through a tiny tiny gap in between one of the doors and a wall to get to the train early, so if people missed the train shot, they just tried to clip through the wall before resetting the level. This went on for over 10 years before someone managed to randomly do it one day.

Train out of bounds. Going out of bounds in a game can be valuable, as it could allow skipping parts of a level. This had never been achieved by anyone for years, which is incredible as older consoles like the N64 are notorious when it comes to clipping out of bounds. After thousands of collective attempts to clip outside levels, even by using tools in emulators, nobody could do it. Then it just happened to someone randomly one day. To my knowledge, nobody knows how it happened and it has never been reproduced in any level. Unfortunately, on this particuler level it seems as though the rest of the level would not load, so it kind of killed attempts to get out of bounds when people realised it might not be so useful.
