I've always felt as though I'm unable to fully enjoy RPGs. Final Fantasy is one of my favourite series of games, but outside of that it's pretty limited. Undertale was probably the last RPG I played that I liked, mostly because it did something different with the combat system and the puzzle aspects weren't too over the top. I feel the same way about CrossCode, but I would put that game into a different category as it isn't a traditional RPG.
I just don't want to sink a ton of time into a game that is mostly a grind with story elements and payoffs that are few and far between when I could play a different kind of game that is at least continuously stimulating.

Super Metroid is one of the main ones I considered, the other being Mega Man. It has a few issues as a speed game though. Resource management is one of them, if you don't get the drops you need then you can end up softlocking or having to spend a ton of time farming items somewhere. The inputs are also very technical, it doesn't sound like a big deal but having to hold down the run button constantly whilst also managing stance/shooting etc is quite difficult.
It also has a couple of very hard tricks in the route that can either waste a bunch of time or softlock you. One that comes to mind is jumping through a door and doing the morph ball speed glitch to avoid the closing shutters and get early super missiles. I practiced that and I can do it, but it's different having to do it in the middle of a 40-50 min run.
