Maybe it's just me, but if someone can't pass the equivalent of 8th grade algebra, then they probably shouldn't be trying to get a college degree. Also, many of the lower income students have state-funded free tuition...seems like a waste of our tax dollars if they already couldn't pass the relatively low entry standards that used to be in place. The state is broke as hell, but at least there are no more racist Cal State entrance exams!

Even sadder is that the Cal State University system couldn't figure out how to get more students to pass remedial english/math so they dropped the requirement altogether.
