When I first tried using self hosted gitlab when it was brand new I'll be honest that I had a hard time running it.
This is already there plus you can share projects with people that are a little cooler than the people on github.
Github is professional. These are all alt-web creators.

They have a nice logo. But isn't the point of gitlab that you host it yourself, so it is not dependent on a third party?
