To me new car smell equals the outgassing of chemicals from artificial materials, the sort of stuff that causes indoor pollution on a low level but much more intense.

Yep. I'm not a big fan of it, but they say a lot of people like it in the US.

Different parts of the world have distinct odors of their own, maybe they don't always combine well with new car smell.

Also, it's interesting how the article quotes someone saying they have to take into account that colors look different in other parts of the world.

Artists have known for a long time that light is different in different locales so I can see how that would affect shades of color.
