These books are the first in a series and unlike the other novels are composed of short stories which, as you find out later, set the scene wonderfully for the events that will come to pass further along in the series and even in the video game adaptations. They are very well written though I hear the official translation versions(which i have) are far better than earlier fan translated ones.

If you played Witcher 3 videogame and wondered how Geralt got the title "The Butcher of Blavikin", what that golden dragon on the Gwent cards is, why Yennefer is a such a cold bitch to Geralt or how the witcher and Ciri met; then these are the books for you.
