I picked this up from the library the other day. I'm a rusophile, I find their culture and history very interesting--and not just the soviet stuff. The story of the slavs, in a sentence, is a story of bondage, then overthrowing, then gaining a new leader, then returning to bondage. Rinse and repeat.

Anyway, this book is obviously about the Chernobyl disaster that affected most of Europe, but heavily affected Ukraine and Belarus. This book is verbal conversations with survivors in the mid-90's that was put to text and then translated in English--after a Russian/Ukrainian release, of course. Very moving, very interesting.

I'm still less than half way through but I'm enthralled. I do recommend this book.
