Garbage collectors in the Turkish capital have opened a public library comprised entirely of books once destined for the landfills.

Today, the library has over 6,000 books ranging from literature to nonfiction. There is also a popular kid's section with comic books and an entire section for scientific research. Books in English and French are also available for bilingual visitors.

I once read an article about how fast Indias literacy rate was climbing, and part of it was the result of a large influx of books to poor areas.
A number of charities will ship 'garbage' books from North America or Europe to remote areas.

I did a quick google to see if I could find the one I had read about, but there are many, so apparently things like this are common.
That's great.

Really makes me happy. The gift of reading is powerful and can change the trajectory of a persons life.

I can see this taking off into something massive. too bad Trudont won't allow it over here.

He'd find a reason to hate it .
