My dad taught me, never approach the dock at a speed you are unwilling to hit it. Perhaps the Norwegian navy could apply this principle in some way.

Haven't heard a lot of details on this collision (unlike the US collisions a year or so ago), but I'm surprised it got to the point where the ship has sunk.
