What changed and why?

Nothing changed, really. /u/Polsaker was looking at it and noticed that it was complete nonsense. We made a placeholder policy two years ago when the site wasn't even called Phuks, and it was kind of forgotten about because the only focus was on the TOS. I've actually opened the privacy policy page a few times and never made it past the third line because it was so boring, but it did have stuff in there that does not even remotely apply to the site.

So basically, this is privacy policy v1.0. Nothing has changed, there are no things we added that infringed upon the old policy, it's just we didn't really have a relevant policy to begin with. As a side note, if there are any questions you have or suggestions relating to the privacy policy, now is probably a good time.

We didn't write the shopping cart bit, that was just pasted from somewhere. I believe it was left in there because we thought about having an onsite store at one point.

I figured as much. Doesn't make much sense to spend time or money to draft something that can just as easily be adapted from any of 1000 other sites.

Also since you seem to know what's up, I'm curious which user actually runs this place? I've seen admins, but no clear boss. Any chance that's what "space lawyer" means?

We have 6 admins, Bretodeau is my admin account. Pembo, Polsaker, jidlaph, Boukert and TheRedArmy are also admins, though their actual admin accounts have different names, with the exception of Polsaker. Pembo and Polsaker do all the dev stuff, and pembo owns the site/is in charge of funds.

The space lawyer thing is a kind of inside joke. It started on Voat after I made some posts on /v/ModernPowers that went into a ridiculous amount of depth concerning the intricacies of space law. For some reason I am now asked about all the legal stuff on Phuks even though I have almost no experience with any legal stuff, apart from studying it in college for a while.

Cool, thanks for filling me in. I'm really liking this place so far. Hopefully it stays nice and civil for as long as possible. I just returned to voat for the first time in about a week, and the difference is pretty much night and day. Hopefully we aren't messing up the vibe here too badly!

Also, I'll be sure to hit you with any legal questions that pop up. I'm thinking about buying a condo in geosynchronous orbit and I want to make sure I'm not stuck paying taxes to whoever ends up on the ground below me ;)

Well, it's not a single person doing it, I am in charge of development and keeping the site running while pembo is in charge of the monies. I own the domains and pembo everything else and Boukert is in charge of all the community stuff.

In that case, thank you for putting this place together! Considering that this site is so similar to voat, I'm impressed that the software seems to run much more smoothy. Phuks is a fork from voat's code, correct?
