"Emergence in 30 minutes, skipper."

"Uh. Yeah. Okay I'll be there," said the groggy courier ship captain. Captain by courtesy, he being only Lt.

Nelson swung out of his rack and pressed the control to stow it in the wall, then grabbed a towel from the hook and a clean jumpsuit and went to the tiny stand-up shower that was his greatest luxury. Hanging his things he entered and was washing his hair when the emergency klaxon sounded. Nelson turned his face up to clear his eyes of soap and reached to the panel outside the shower, jammed the talk switch and hollered with alarm, "Bridge, status! What's happening?" He stepped out and began yanking on his jumpsuit over wet skin, hopping on one foot towards the hatch. Exiting his cabin, he ran the 75 feet along the corridor not seeing another crewman, but not taking note of that fact.

Slamming his palm against the authenticator to unlock the bridge hatch, Nelson stepped into an unreality. The bridge was empty. Ensign Gregory's coffee mug stood steaming in the cup holder on the command seat, the Engineer's pipe smouldered beneath the exhaust vent beside his bridge station.

Nelson killed the klaxon and opened the 1MC, "This is the Captain! All departments report!" He waited a moment for at least the green status lights to come on, but there was only silence. And no lights, red or green.

Nelson quickly ran through the diagnostics panel receiving only 100% or nominal readings. Then the emergence complete signal chimed."What? This isn't right. We had at least 25 minutes to go," he said aloud to the empty bridge. Nelson switched the main view screen away from internal readouts and cycled through various exteral views. Then he saw something that told him he hadn't arrived home.

"It's a binary! A binary!? Where the hell am I?

Edit: Sorry for the typos. I was on the road posting from a tablet.

In the distance gigantic turtles marched down to the shore began to swim out to sea, enormous red crosses on the sides of their shells. The Spanish Armada was on the move!
