On Friday, Germany began rationing hot water, dimming street lights and closing swimming pools as it faces the prospect of energy shortages that could leave its people shivering and its businesses shuttered this winter.

Most of the gas usage goes to industrial/chemical production, but a lot of that is not very economically productive. Limit usage for the industries that have the lowest value-add to energy ratio. Stop some other excessive uses in the public that they point out already--heated swimming pools, those stupid outdoor heaters on patios, lower temperatures a few degrees and wear sweaters, etc. Problem (mostly) solved. No reason for people to freeze this winter.

In the longer-term, the Germans should realize they are nuclear-phobic retards sold out by their "green" politicians to Russian petro oligarchs all growing wealthy while appealing to weak, delusional, and idealistic pacifist Germans; they wouldn't have been in this mess if they didn't believe in such new-age nonsense.

It's very similar to the discussion of water shortages in the southwest US really; something like 80% goes to wasteful agriculture like growing almonds or tomatoes in the deserts of California and Arizona, yet all you hear about it is how people need to install low-flow toilets in their homes. It's a very solvable problem if people approach this from a rational angle rather than be victims of industry lobbying.

Don't forget, California has a history of dumping hundreds of billions of fresh water directly into the pacific. They also are not investing heavily into rainwater capture, so a vast majority of all rain goes into drains and canals that again are dumped directly into the pacific.

I've heard that too, but to be fair rivers kind of need to run into the ocean eventually. Are they doing it excessively? Couldn't say as it's not my area of expertise.

edit: I read this again and noticed you're talking about drains. Yes, that sounds retarded and the water should go back to golf courses or something. But maybe there is bad chemical shit on the streets or something so it can't go back directly into lakes? If that's the case, time to clean that shit up.
