Cormorants are becoming a problem in The Great Lakes as well. They crap all over everything, killing a lot of vegetation. Near me they are overtaking nesting areas of the herons causing the herons to uproot.
However, I haven't heard of them being an issue as far as effecting sport fishing here. I have heard that the resurgence of the white pelicans will soon cause this issue.
*Overall it does say that the ecosystem is healthier that these birds are more abundant. I don't think we have seen how it will all balance out yet.
