No one asked to make a statue of Floyd, they asked for accountability for murder and police reform. They got a statue and a holiday instead.

As far as the confederate statues, fuck em. It makes no sense to celebrate those traitors and the majority of them weren't even constructed until 50+ years after the Civil War. During the whole daughter's of confederate Era.

Juneteenth predates Floyd, and truthfully I think it's a great and truly American thing to remember that Americans fought each other and died to live up to the constructional ideology that all men are born free. I feel like 10 years from now people will be like "George who?" but take away that America is the only country that fought a civil war over the subjugation of another people and that is something we can be proud of.

You're absolutely right, it was just far less known and not a federally recognized holiday until all this nudged it into the mainstream. I'm not discrediting it as a good move. But it certainly felt more of a symbolic consolation prize compared to what people actually asked for
