So my job is manufacturing parts for the consumer goods supply chain. We make stuff for things that go on store shelves. Therefor we've been deemed essential. And with the mass panic buying we've been busier than ever before. In fact we broke an all time record this month with several days left. In recognition of everyone working so hard and diligently we were informed today that on Friday, upper management will be supplying us with a sack lunch. Consisting of a cold ham or turkey sandwich and a cookie. I simply could not help but laugh in my bosses face when I was informed of this. I would rather just take that $1.75 they spend on that and add it to my paycheck. I get that there's not a lot of options when it comes to food for us right now. But damn, a cold sad sandwich? I would legitimately prefer a "Great Job!" sticker.

I've also been tossing around the idea of creating an informal FEMA theme for Fridays lunch time festivities.

Man that is so bad it makes me sad. When I was working 80-100 hour weeks for months on end during crunch time for shipping games, even the cheapest shittiest studios would at worst get us In-N-Out for lunch/dinner, but normally just family-sized orders from restaurants. The larger studios just had catering twice/day at those times.

Also I never got paid any bonus or any more than if I was working 40 hours/week. Literally the food was the only bonus for slaving away.

"But what am I supposed to do with the sack lunch I already packed? Are you trying to make me fat?"

I'm so sorry

I appreciate that. At least I have the quarterly bonus to look forward to. But for fucks sake, their lack of self awareness for thinking this was an acceptable reward for the our accomplishments is completely beyond my comprehension.

Also I remember when I worked for Amazon way back in like 2013, they would send out a company-wide email every year during the Christmas shopping season. They at the time would staff up to 100,000 fulfillment center workers with temporary workers and give everyone a 100 Grand candy bar to celebrate that number of employees. That feels a bit worse than a shit sandwich, yet the company bragged about it so much and sent out so many pictures of people smiling and holding up the bars.
