My interpretation is that after 9/11 our nation was the most United it had been in living memory. A blanket solidarity of everyone processing and dealing with the events moving forward.
Now 17 years later. We are more divided than I've ever seen. Fractures on every level of society. This IMO is detrimental to our nation's health.
It's sort of the whole United we stand, divided we fall.
It can also be seen as a downgrade from the torch of liberty, to the tiki torch and everything that's come to represent.
