Any time I take the train I always have something to snack on, Just pack what you want in your back pack and done. MRE's have become a good source compared to the c rations I ate in vietnam.

MREs are probably a good idea for traveling. I normally soak a bunch of oats in milk at night but forgot to last night and resorted to train food

You might like to try oats or Musli and use yogurt rather than milk, put 3-4 spoons of yogurt in the grains and let sit or overnight or if in a rush for 10 minutes. add fruit and it's great. Wife and I have used Quark but it's not as good as the American yogurt.

I actually do a 50/50 mix of oats and muesli already, I was just too lazy to type it :) the plain muesli is just too sweet for me, must be the sorghum. I buy one with no sugar added, but they add dates to sweeten it.
