It is weird how many police vids I’ve seen over the years where police shot an unarmed person fleeing. They never seem to get charged. I wouldn’t shoot a shoplifter fleeing.
You got to be reasonable. Shooting in the chest from this distance over 36$ isn't. There clearly was an option to aim somewhere where it wouldn't risk the thieves live in such danger. On the other hand, it's not like the shooter had a lot of time to think about his actions; he did the wrong thing in a stress situation.
The lawyer fees are going to cost far more than the stolen beer would have.

I Wouldn’t shoot someone over beer. I’m guessing their store is in a ghetto area. If you have a store in the ghetto you’d have to shoot like 3 people at least every day. Easier to just buy insurance. Who’s gonna shop in your store when there’s daily gun battles?
What owner did is clearly against the law. Should that be the law? I'm not sure, it would certainly be a crime deterrent.
