The truth is though, he was showing how to survive on an island, not this one in particular. So contriving different scenarios and demonstrating how to over come them is exactly what the show was about.
Yeah they often exaggerated the danger and created drama to boost viewers. But that is simply par for the course of any reality TV.
I really can't shit on Bear for this sort of thing for 2 main reasons.
There are people walking around who still remember his survival tips, and I consider that a net win regardless of anything else. He educated people in an entertaining and effective way.
He put some awful, disgusting stuff in his mouth and you just can't fake that.
