I know I'm not going insane: sometimes when I have 2 notifications, there's really only 1. Anyone else have this problem?

Have you checked the various inbox tabs? (Post Replies, Comment Replies, Mentions etc.)

PMs also need to be manually marked as read, or they will forever give a notification.

I went through this when I had a permanent "1" notification (it was an actual bug). Let's not go through that again :)
