TrU was... boring. All of the ones I ever saw were cramped, just stuff on shelves, nothing to target a full range of "kids", sometimes overpriced, and did not try to compete with the online marketplace in a meaningful way. Aside from technology advancements, it was the same store last year as it was 20 years ago.

I always thought the selection of toys was great for all kids; boys, girls, and all age groups. I thought they could have had a better selection of sporting goods, but they did have the basics, and after all it wasn't a sporting goods store.

Yeah, they targeted all age groups, certainly. And while I was most certainly impressed with their Nerf selection, I wasn't too impressed in most other areas - with a few exceptions. I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high. I always expected to feel my inner kid get excited any time I walked in one and it rarely even woke up.

I think that's more a product of the store layout than the contents. Very little in the way of interactive displays, high ceilings with fluorescent lighting, it was a warehouse with shelves of toys.
