Toys r Us needed to be made a fun destination as mentioned there, but by the time they realized it, it was too late.

Between Target, Walmart, and Amazon, there were more convenient options to buy toys. Unless there was a real reason to visit Toys r Us, people weren't going.

It's a shame, as I did often shop Toys r Us. When there was a child's birthday party I almost always went there. I appreciated the larger selection of toys than offered at smaller locations, and a toy is something I would like to physically see (unless I knew exactly what it was), before buying.

TrU was... boring. All of the ones I ever saw were cramped, just stuff on shelves, nothing to target a full range of "kids", sometimes overpriced, and did not try to compete with the online marketplace in a meaningful way. Aside from technology advancements, it was the same store last year as it was 20 years ago.

I always thought the selection of toys was great for all kids; boys, girls, and all age groups. I thought they could have had a better selection of sporting goods, but they did have the basics, and after all it wasn't a sporting goods store.

Yeah, they targeted all age groups, certainly. And while I was most certainly impressed with their Nerf selection, I wasn't too impressed in most other areas - with a few exceptions. I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high. I always expected to feel my inner kid get excited any time I walked in one and it rarely even woke up.
