I cannot program, alas. If I could, I would create a tool for automatic posting.

  • I would omit text posts.
  • Every link that ends in .jpg .png or .bpm could go to /s/pics
  • every link that points to youtube, vimeo or vid.me could go to /s/videos
  • Everything else could go to /v/whatever
  • if title contains NSFW, submit it as NSFW.
  • the tool could have auto timer, and submit e.g. one link every hour.

Why do I think it is important? When we go live, many people will check the site, find lack of good content, not contribute and never come back. If they find fun stuff, they could stay here and contribute more, starting the popularity snowball.

What do you guys think of the idea? I know it is a flight of fancy, but I would be interested in critique anyway.

Or do you have ideas for other auto-posting tools? Let's discuss them.

dude you would crash all kinds of stuff if THAT many things got posted at once :p

If voat had finished the v1/api, i could capture all links and make a "post every hour until done" thing.

The timer is a must. Even the intended purpose - fresh content for the newcomers - dictates posting little by little.

Doeas voatsearch.co help in any way?

we can currently use a script to scrape your submission page, but we can only go back 19 pages(400 posts) of posts because their new restrictions. You have over 6000 links..

voatsearch guy might be able to give us a better list if we can get them to give us a .csv list or something from their db. I don't know what all they store or how, but it's worth a shot, since it's more than we can get from voat right now.
