It is not an issue of guns. It is an issue of mental health and the public school system.

Violence begets violence, and copycat killers are a thing. Our media over-hypes and sensationalizes these events. We give these situations attention, and life, and this breeds the feeling that if another person commits the same crime they too will be remembered in the media aftermath.

The public school system is little more than an indoctrination day care from 7-3. What may have started as a benign attempt to provide free education for the young masses, has turned into a decaying institution where children are crammed into cattle cars and force fed paid curriculum which do little more than line the pockets of textbook creators.

Public school systems are sterile, they do not condone any natural human behavior. We have long forgotten what an open-air discourse looks like. We have separated ourselves from nature, put our children in boxes and told them to think inside of this box.

I laugh when I hear educators and parents say "think outside the box". Surely, the children who have dared to think outside the box have been shunned for non-conformity. There is only ONE way to solve a problem, there is only ONE way to speak to a teacher, there is only ONE way to present a lesson.

Teachers and students alike are extremely discouraged from breaking away from the norm. Curriculum providers such as Pearson and McgrawHill develop a system designed to make PROFIT! They do not care for the overall well-being of any man woman or child save their own. This curriculum is then SOLD to school boards across the nation, wrapped up in twisting legalese that make it impossible to teach anything outside of this curriculum.

How does that condone free thought?

Let us now look at the public school system in more detail. Year after year children are forced to wake up at unhealthy hours in the morning, when it has been proven that during the early developmental stages of a human it is absolutely necessary to sleep during these times. They are, by the thousands, dumped into a small building where nobody has explained the rules to them. They struggle from day one to figure out what its all about.

Adults do not help them. They are lost in the building, and not only that but they are lost inside themselves. Group thought dominates the school. The children form their own in-groups and out-groups. They collectively create a caste system that is absolutely brutal. If you do not look a certain way, act a certain way, think a certain way, then the majority of the children label and discard you.

Remember the cliche cliques? The jocks, the cheerleaders, the preps, the nerds, the weirdos, the goths.

Remember these labels?

WE CREATED THOSE LABELS FOR OURSELVES.

Or rather, we created them for OTHERS.

Little children cannot possibly understand the psychology going on behind the scenes. They can't see themselves acting in such cannibalistic ways until it is too late. Looking back on my own public school experience, I am very surprised any of us made it out alive.

To return to the first point: Children are forced into this box and set free to devour each other.

The public school system induces so much stress in their lives. From a young age we are instilled with the fear of failure. If the child does not make the assignment by the deadline, they fail. If the assignment is not EXACTLY created as outlined in the curriculum, they fail. If the assignment does not fit socially conditioned norms compared to other students, they fail.

It is this stress that begins to eat away at the desire to stay in education. It is this stress that leads to more failure. Eventually, it was this stress that led to the epidemic of psychotropic drug prescriptions.

The child doesn't want to conform? Simply give them a drug.

The child can't wake up early enough in the morning? Here is a drug for that.

The child has anxiety issues about going to school? Here is yet another drug.

These pharmaceuticals are destroying lives. Everyone knows it. Nobody does anything about it. Ever seen a drug commercial? Ever read the pamphlet the pharmacist staples to the back of the prescription? To fix ONE disorder these drugs implement a HOST of other issues.

Millions of young hearts and minds are being pushed through this cookie-cutter system that lasts more than a decade. It truly is brainwashing, and it is NOT conducive to a healthy mindset. Those of us who can withstand the torture eventually graduate and move on, the remnants of what could have been our minds slowly falling away from us as we pursue careers.

Those of us that can't withstand the torture...well...you've seen what happens.

These children are being force fed pills, being force fed curriculum, and being forced to survive in their mental jungle of stereotypes and cliques. This is the true root of our issue in America.

It is not a gun issue. It is a mental health issue, and it is here that I rest my argument.

You want something to be done? You scream at the president to fix it all?

Why not take it upon yourself instead of waiting for the government to do something.

Why don't you be a big boy or a big girl and grow the hell up and realize what is going on in our country.

We must dismantle the American Public Education System and replace it with a creation that provides a healthy lifestyle to our kids.

Look at how it is rigged against us: It is extremely difficult to survive with just one paycheck. So mommy and daddy have to BOTH get a job. That means there is nobody to watch the kids, which is why they are shipped off to school. When the kids get home, they take care of themselves, or a babysitter watches them, or a daycare/nursery steps in. Then mommy and daddy come home from work, exhausted.

It is too late to spend time with the kids. It is too tiring to hear their cries and their woes.

So here is some television! So here is some internet!

The children get home from school and their faces are shoved into MORE BOXES!

And look at the disgusting trash that is considered mainstream entertainment! Degenerates get on the screen and preach to the children how God is dead and you can be a boy or girl with a simple surgery.

Don't just settle for one sex partner! Why do that when you can "be free" and do what thou wilt?!

Drugs and Sex are cool! Give in to your hedonistic lower selves!

Don't follow traditional morals!

There is no afterlife because science says so! SO BE FREE AND HAVE FUN!

We are being BRAINWASHED in every way possible! How far we have fallen! We have LET this happen!

So now it is up to the remaining free-thinkers to understand what is truly going on, and to do something about it.

I'm not saying I have the answer.

But I damn sure know what the problem is.

Agreed! We have a generation of children that have been raised in a society that no longer values children and childhood. We are reaping the benefits of daycare, no faith (in anything other than television and movies made for 5 second attention spans) and little to no value of intact families.

And I don't care what you define families as: parents and grandparents, sibs- whatever, as long as it is a cohesive consistent loving environment of people with a common bond and goals. Children need love, they need reassurance and recognition. Children need to know they are important and they matter. Kids don't thrive on video games, dvd's and sh*tty multicultural bullshite disney films.

But this is the agenda. To"globalize" and homogenize human society, to make us more manageable and have fewer differences. Make mankind generic. The beginning of Huxley's "Bokanovsky" groups.

The good thing is- we see it and we know what is happening. @Sidewalker_Principle makes a post that is a clarion call now and to the future.

I should probably disclose that I'm 17 and a Junior in high school. I can agree that the curriculum providers are too focused on tests and not enough on actually teaching kids to think for themselves (just look at how popular the war on drugs and the major political parties are,) but that point is pretty unrelated to the rest of it. I really think that if the school system was designed to promote free thought more, we'd still have outcasts and cliques. It's a psychological fact (and common sense) that people stick together with people they have something in common with. And those who can't find people they have much in common with, will be outcasts.

So let me get this straight: You want to take personal agency away from people because "think of the children?" Or is it because it's what God wants? I live in a country that was built on freedom, and I cherish it. I am not obliged to live the life that you want me to just because it's "healthier." Does the media control society? Absolutely. On purpose? Probably. Is everyone who agrees with the media brainwashed? Absolutely not. But you clearly have a wish to do the same thing, and turn it into an authoritarian-right dystopia.

Medication, traditional morals, religion, recreational drugs, sexual freedom, those are all PERSONAL CHOICES. It's like, you talk about how you want schools to allow more free-thought, then you list everything you hate about modern society, and it's all stuff that would require extremely controlled thought to get rid of.

Your points on children consuming too much media are good, but those are an issue of BAD PARENTING, not an issue of having two parents work. If we disallowed two parents from working, we'd plunge ourselves into a child poverty crisis. It's absolutely better to have a parent at home in most cases, but at the same time we can't take away the freedom to choose not to. Any good parent who has to be at work, whether the other parent is at work or not, will find time for their child.

Okay, so your reply is touching on multiple points at once. I will try my best to get to each of them.

You want to take personal agency away from people because "think of the children?"

I honestly don't know where you got that idea from. I in no way want to take away personal agency from anybody. As a matter of fact I truly mean to GIVE agency to people who otherwise are experiencing brainwashing. It is my belief that the majority of people are on autopilot. The media tells them how to think, the norms formed by group-think also dictate how they act.

Is everyone who agrees with the media brainwashed? Absolutely not. But you clearly have a wish to do the same thing, and turn it into an authoritarian-right dystopia.

Ok now you are attacking me and putting words in my mouth. Please point out where I said any of that. I dare you to.

My post was written up on the spot, fresh from waking up in the morning and reading on reddit and voat about the school shootings and gun control. I have long believed and still feel a strong conviction that the underlying issue is NOT about the guns.

It is about how people are bred. Yes. Breeding.

The public school system is not conducive to an emotionally stable reality. I understand that psychologically we naturally form cliques and cliche groups.

But my point is that the types of groups we are forming...are persuaded by the media. Sure, its fine and dandy to experience your own sexuality. You are human after all.

But the rampant promiscuity and vulgarity that children are exposed to is NOT okay.

Every single piece of "art" exhibits these tendencies. I believe our morality is being skewed. On purpose.

Your points on children consuming too much media are good, but those are an issue of BAD PARENTING, not an issue of having two parents work.

I understand where you're coming from here too. I think I used the wrong phrasing.

Bad parenting is indeed one of the major flaws in the American home. But let us examine the trends, and how far we have fallen from the traditional family values we used to have.

The way the system is setup, it is nearly impossible to actually parent your children yourself. We need to make more money than ever before. It requires both parents to be out in the workforce. And society today applauds people who abandon traditional family values in place of a "career".

I am not trying to downplay anybody who decides to go and make something of themselves. Especially women, who in before times have been held back due to societal issues on gender roles. I get this. I understand this. I myself have a woman who is seeking to "denounce" her "role" of being a stay-at-home mom. I totally and completely understand and I cheer her on in every way.

But deep down inside I know the truth. Look at every single natural family unit in the animal kingdom. Sure some males stay and watch the pups while the females do the hard work.

Sure some females stay and watch the kits while the males do the hard work.

Sure some have mixed roles, where they take turns.

But I challenge you to show me a species that both mother and father abandon their young to the wild. And those wild succeed.

My point, is that the way it has worked out is that both parents are needed in the workforce. This leaves the child to fend for themselves. To be raised by the State.

To be raised by the System.

And my entire thesis is that the System is flawed and we must return to a more natural and comfortable state of living if we ever want to see our society come back to "normal".

But my point is that the types of groups we are forming...are persuaded by the media.

I don't really see much wrong with them, though, with the exception of the fact that some groups bully other groups (never experienced this myself, I've heard this was more frequent pre-Columbine.) So what if some people define themselves by their love of sci-fi or gothic aesthetics?

But the rampant promiscuity and vulgarity that children are exposed to is NOT okay.

If you're talking about ElsaGate and similar stuff, you're absolutely right. That shit is made by perverts to brainwash children at an early age, and any good parent would keep their kids away from it. But in nearly any other case, there should be some level of understanding that not all of it is for kids. Some of it for teens, some of it for adults. Basically, know what your kids are looking at, you have the right to say "no."

I can't speak for myself on being raised without my parents home, since my mom was always there, but while I do believe it's better to have a parent at home, the fact is that, even though mental health issues are on the rise, it's not to a degree where most kids are born mentally ill. And to solve this problem? I believe what would need to happen is the employers would need some kind of regulations to not force people with kids under ~13 to work as long as they do. Which could lead to people with kids being unable to find jobs, making child poverty skyrocket.

Honestly my whole thing can be summed up as "society is cozy, it's what I know, and I like it." Really if you think long enough, you realize that everyone who lives in a country rich enough where this even could happen maintains it by screwing over much poorer countries.

I feel like I was pretty much criticizing you for having a different ideal for society than mine (mine is one where nobody really cares what you're doing as long as you're not hurting anyone other than yourself.) I'm sorry.

You've covered a lot of points, and I generally agree with them all.
One that I think that doesn't get enough attention is the drugs.

I thought using drugs to escape your problems was called 'addiction' but apparently its now called a 'prescription'.
When a person becomes depressed, or anti-social, they ignore the causes and drug the subject.
Hyperactivity in children is 100% normal, and requires only some parenting and discipline, not drugs.

Legally prescribed drugs kill more people than illegal ones, but the 'war on drugs' never turned on the biggest offenders, doctors.
I've also heard, though not been able to confirm it, that every recent mass-killer that wasn't Muslim, was on anti-depressants, which are known to suppress inhibition and anxiety (anxiety is a normal, healthy, and necessary feeling)
