It doesn't make them money. I recall around 2002-5 seeing tons of Apple stuff being used for things like graphic design, but the software is not as good anymore and people shifted away from using them for professional purposes. Then they started making an absolute killing with iPhones and all other variants.

They used to sell iMacs with flat screens integrating all the components (maybe they still do? I can't remember the last time I've seen an Apple desktop). The displays were really nice just like their laptop displays are now.

Apple used to make printers too. Back in their day, they were (arguably) the best tech on the market. The higher end ones didn't sell well due to price point, so they were eventually discontinued.

But yeah, fuck apple. I actually think less of people who use their products.

The eWaste bothers me about them too. Their users are incredibly smug but have no second thoughts about the ecological disaster they are causing by upgrading to the newest iShit every new generation.

What pisses me off is that I'm being forced into upgrading too, and I don't even have an iphone. I've got an early smartphone with a removable battery. I planed on using it until it died, potentially another 10 years, but now the fully charged battery doesn't even survive though the night to play my morning alarm. Apparently no one even makes a battery that fits it.

I'm actually tempted to 3D print an extended back plate and just solder some other battery in there to extend its life...

I feel you. Planned obsolesence and disposable consumer culture really bothers me. I love to fix things and keep them working as long as possible and feel really bad when there is something really small wrong with it that can't be replaced easily because nobody makes it.

It kind of seems like other phone manufactuers have taken a lesson from Apple and love to build designs too that can't be upgraded/replaced easily.

It's deliberate. Dongles cost nothing to make in bulk and so you will never get the kind of markup on a monitor that you can on a dongle.

That's gone, it's Apple the iPhone and appStore company now. computers are a side business for them. They probably earn more off headphone adapters by now than on their "iMac without logic board" monitors. They move their talented people to the departments where most money is made and that means the others get even worse than they already are. That's totally normal for Silicon Valley companies.
