It's been almost 2 years since the failed Turkey coup - what the fuck's been going on since?

As @Boukert mentioned, there has been some speculation since the coup that it was planned by Erdogan (actually informed speculation, not just conspiracy shitposting). Whether it was or not, it has certainly worked out well for him. In the past couple of years he has been removing people from positions in the government and military that were an obstacle to him, and has extended his powers in some very questionable ways.

Basically Erdogan is becoming a God emperor and it's worrying.

I doubt it was directly CIA, unless they were using it as a cover for other operations. Generally the CIA seems to be pretty successful when they try to topple sovereign states.

I'd bet money that the Turkish govt faked it all. Kind of odd that the media and internet remained active to report on it all, and lead those videos of "the rebels" killing civilians. An excuse to kill off and displace internal threats to their agendas. Lots of judges and and solders uninvolved with the fighting were arrested, and thousands of teachers and other civilians were fired over accusations of terrorism. It was nothing short of a purge.

I guess its also possible it was a legitimate grassroots attempt to seize power, and all the arrests were just the reaction of a dictator.

Kind of hard to say anything for certain. The Turkish govt has been understandably guarded with the details in any case.

Just an ongoing purge, nothing to see here. If there is i'm sure Turkey will block the sources on interwebz anyway.

Just remember to vote for Erdogan or you are an enemy of the state!!!

edit: I still think it was planned by Erdogan himself. It was his means to have an excuse to persecute critics, opposition, shut down media and spam his political propaganda
