If you remove the tanks, flamethrowers, SAWs, snipers, grenades, napalm strikes, mortors, trench foot and general raping and pillaging, then most wars are apparently pretty similar to going to a US high school.

This is what has really irked me about this meme.

They compare soldiers in wars to students in school. Soldiers signed up/were drafted. They knew what they could be faced with. They knew that war zones are dangerous and deadly places. They're aware to be cautious about the enemy and risks.

Meanwhile Tina is only concerned about passing chemistry and asking Joey out to the school dance. Not if a madman is going to come in with a gun.

I see your point, but I don't entirely agree.
The context is different, I agree. But the fear was far more real for past generations.

Tina didn't have to worry much, because she was a girl.
Tim just wanted to pass chemistry also, but he got a draft card instead.

The more significant difference to me is that today the threat is mostly imaginary, but in past it was very real.
Hypothermia kills more Americans than school shooters.
Past generations did have a reasonable chance to die from led poisoning. They weren't just being wound up by a manipulative media and political circus.

Kids today are safer than they have ever been.

Kids may be safer and do not have to deal with lead poisoning, polio, etc. There is rarely talk about whether little Jimmy will live through the winter anymore

There are modern day issues that kids face now though that were basically nonexistent before.

Can you show us the source of the quote

past generations just don't understand what it'slike to be shot at by AR's

that you appear to be attributing to David Hogg?

Can you show us

You speak only for yourself, don't pretend you represent everyone else.

that you appear to be attributing

Do you think he made this, or do you you think it might be a meme?
I'll give you some time to think it over.

It's real easy to trigger you isn't it? There are less passive-aggressive ways to make a point.
And if you're not going to bring genuine conversation, why waste his time?

Or are you so damaged at this point, that you think that is a good way to start a rational discussion?

Calm. Asking for citations looks like an excellent way to start a rational discussion.

Do you think he made this, or do you you think it might be a meme?

Meme, but one that purports to quote a real person. There is value in having properly attributed quotes. If it is real, we can all facepalm and hit the share button. If this is a witty rebuttal of a fake quote... well that is the very definition of a strawman. A quick search doesn't confirm the quote is genuine, so asking the OP for citations is the next best route.

I'm sure someone out there has said something like this-or equally stupid-so why not go get a picture of that guy instead?

It's real easy to trigger you isn't it?

That escalated quickly.

Asking for citations is fine.
It's his passive aggressive way of making it a personal attack that I have an issue with.

He's got a long history of it. He shows up to start fires, not have reasonable discussions.
You probably should know that by now though.

There is a big difference between asking for a citation, and picking a fight.

Also :

Calm

Calm what? Am I not allowed to call out bad behaviour, or do you think I'm upset? I'm not sure what you mean.

That escalated quickly.

No, it didn't 'escalate' at all.
Do you also think his comment was a reasonable way to start a genuine conversation?

If you think confronting passive aggression with an honest rebuke is an 'escalation' then we're going to have to disagree. Prepare to see a lot of 'escalation'.
Because I call out bullshit when I see it.
