Every year it snows where I live. Everyone should be used to it and know how to drive safely yet diligently. But every fucking year there are a few people who have somehow forgotten how to drive. I propose 3 options. The first is that we all have the legal right to kill one person each day. The problem should fix itself over a few years. The second option is that everyone who doesn't know how to drive doesn't leave for work until everyone else has already gotten to work. The third option is that I get missles on my vehicle.
I've seen a study that indicated that speed is not the most significant factor in the cause of accidents. but differences in speed.
So if everyone was fast, or everyone slow, there would not be many accidents. But when you mix the two together, it gets interesting.
Also, when people respect the passing on the left, and keep the left open, accidents go down significantly.
I believe that if the police stopped focusing on speeders, and focused on poor lane control and selection, as well as aggressive behaviour, it would have a greater impact in lessening accidents.
People need to learn that effective driving is a team sport. If a person views it as 'them vs other drivers' then the resulting behaviour is going to cause slower travel for everyone.
my buddy has a gps from his insurance company. They send him e-mails if he violates these:
Starting too fast (tires squeak) Stopping to fast (tires don't have to squeak) driving unreasonably fast (25 over limit, 15 in school zones)
if he stays under 3 e-mails per month his insurance continually drops monthly. No e-mails and you're paying almost nothing. I remember hearing a similar study and it was for this experimental insurance which I was always interested in. Turns out it's implemented and works well... I just don't want GPS on me everywhere.
It's both extremes that piss me off. The idiots who think they can drive fast and have everything go well. They need to crash into a pole. It is also the people who drive unreasonably slow. They are just as dangerous on the road as the idiot fast drivers.
