I know the feeling. My first name is a somewhat common name, but I spell it slightly different than typical.
People never ask how to spell it. They just go ahead and spell it wrong.
I don't correct them most of the time, because it doesn't matter. I've cashed checks with the wrong spelling, even banks get it.
I have a pretty common first name that has a few different spellings, so I get both my first and last name misspelled constantly. So annoying. I never tried cashing a check with the wrong spelling tho, oddly never ran into that.
My first name only has two common spellings, and one is more common for men, the other more common for women, so most people get it right the first time.
My last name is in common with a former president (no relation), so people typically know how to spell it right away.
My dad's side of the family had their name turned from a super common French/German name to a weird and unique mix of both the French and German spellings during immigration way back. We're the only family in the US with the name, my uncle actually changed his legally back to the French version just so people would stop misspelling it constantly.
