For me, I'm guessing shucking corn or cleaning fish. Buy corn or catch fish, make the kids process it.

There weren't many woods around where I lived, but stomping around the sugar cane fields were something my friends and I did, occasionally getting yelled at by a farmer and running off.

My wife used to gather pecans from the pecan tree outside when they fell, and then would do whatever you do to them to make them edible (I don't know anything about it), or would sell them to others in town. They also used to do the Halloween Hay Bale ride in the neighborhood - basically a small tractor pulling a trailer with bales of hay on it where all the neighborhood kids would jump on and then drive around to all the various houses for trick-or-treat.

I spent most of my childhood days playing video games, so outside of the occasional Xbox LAN party (seriously) with about 8 TVs and Xbox-es and something like a dozen people, nothing too interesting ever happened.
