You'll need to log in to switch to dark theme and see that. Light theme will probably be tweaked; I'm not satisfied with inbox notification colours, post author and sub colours and a few other little things. Dark theme looks fine.

Post pages, inbox, welcome page, TOS page etc. do not have styles but the main styles from the frontpage can easily be applied to most of the other pages. 75% of the CSS is probably finished, it's mostly just small adjustments now. Classes on the New Layout™ are a lot simpler and I think it will be easier for mods to apply CSS on subs now. Headers, for example, are a nightmare to get right on the current layout, so much so that I actually just got rid of them on a couple of my sub stylesheets rather than fuck around.

If you have any serious suggestions for the CSS it would be helpful. Not like last time when the best suggestion was to make Phuks look like "a little girl's myspace page circa 2005".

So if I'm to understand the current layout is going to be replaced by this new layout?

I don't really like the new layout, especially the margins. However the dark isn't so bad. I think the light theme should be exactly like the current theme. Because the current theme is pretty sweet.

The new light theme looks like someone on reddits attempt at customization that is new to css.

The margins really make this site feel more polished, and they seem all but removed from the new theme.

Sorry if this is harsh, I just really like the phuksTM layout and don't want to see it go :(

The new layout isn't just a layout. The backend has been completely redone too. When it is finished, it will replace this one.

One of the issues with the current layout is it looks pretty bad on mobile. The new layout will hopefully be better when it is finished.

I am not happy with light theme either and it will be changed. There is also stuff that hasn't been added to the pages yet, which makes it look sort of empty in comparison. Is there anything in particular that bothers you about it? Aside from the margins.

I definitely get adapting the front end to make the back end more accessible and I'm sure when the new theme takes over it'll be great too!

What I really like from the current theme is the colors. The orange on the white really pops and is much more pleasing than the black, while also making it slightly different than other sites in this social space.

I also really dig the lined backgrounds, as they make the borders and the white boxes really pop while not being overdone.

The hot new and top placement feels a little rushed, and the box around it could really use some padding. I also preferred it when it was beside the logo.

It's cool to have my voice heard! I'm also super picky because I'm a webdev and these types of things bother me on my projects. I really want you guys to be bigger than voat cause voat turned into.. something weird.. but I'm scared people wont give you guys a shot if they don't like the layout :(

Edit: if I were in your guys' position I'd try to port over the current theme as much as possible into the new one! But I just really like the current one.

I thought about it and I think you're right. I'm not a fan of light themes, I actually write my own dark styles for sites I visit because I can't stand looking at a white screen. When I did the new layout CSS I mostly focused on the dark theme, my only changes to the light theme were position changes - the colour scheme on there is still the placeholder I made months ago.

As for hot/top/new, I also agree, it looks out of place. Particularly when there is a long post title on the top post, the text is too close to it. On the other hand, I don't want to put it back on the header because having it up there can obscure custom headers on subs, so I'm not sure what to do with it. Maybe we can increase the space between the header and the top post, and make a row of buttons there. I also mentioned putting the featured sub in between there, similar to the trending subs on Reddit.

Would you prefer something closer to this?

It's still a waayyys off. The biggest thing is that it runs on the new API that's in the works so when it's done, we'll be able to run multiple front-ends and apps at the same time.

tbh I prefer it without the margins. Less wasted space.
