based on my grandparents, i got a 50/50 chance of heading down that road. i'm certainly no expert on mental illness and the deterioration of the brain but i'm a firm believer that the trick is to surrender to the flow. acceptance and a natural light attitude (like my grandma) make for a much happier dusk than fear and anger (like my grandpa).

Could it could be he was very hungover, maybe still a little drunk?

His mind is clearly slipping. Just the first time he openly admitted it.

I'm guessing he doesn't travel much.. otherwise it's not so unusual. At least he knew who he was.

He has lived his whole life in a to be generous 100 square mile radius. Is lack of travel a common symptom?

I doubt lack of travel is a common symptom/cause.

I've personally woken up not knowing where I am a few times during periods of international travel. I'm not concerned about dementia (though maybe I should be).
