10-1 it is to get more control and prevent subs like /r/gaming from hiding paid posts or comments or shit like that. Seriously Reddit doesnt give a shit about users at all!

They shouldn't more than they have to from a business standpoint. As long as there are numbers that continue to use it they have a product they can sell to advertisers etc. They're not in the business of providing some utopia of free speech and expression. They're in the business of making cold hard cash. They've been pretty successful thus far. I mean shit, they've convinced a large number of dumb fucks that they should PAY reddit 3 dollars to "gold" someone for whatever reason. The only benefit being you gain access to a prestigious sub of their newfound peers. If it's free, at some point, you're the product.
