I've watched some of this series, and considered posting some here. In other videos he does a good job of breaking down some of the tactics. Ultimately I decided not to because of the way he presents these traits as being 'alt-right' when the topics mostly apply to all extreme views or highly motivated people.

The topics of the following videos usually apply in all directions, so labeling it the 'alt-right playbook' is misleading.

I've definitely been debating on posting this for a few days now. But it is one of the better videos discussing the subject. Plus I was interested in seeing the community response.

Although the traits are consistent with most other extremist groups, I think this video does a good job of explaining this particular group to the uninformed masses. The vast majority of people have never heard of the alt right before 2016. And they've gained a lot of exposure through the media, and through their own efforts of interacting online.

It's a fascinating social construct that has no easy explanation. But this guy does a much better examination than just labeling them various -ists and moving on.

He does do a reasonable job of defining the phrase and it's history.
I guess my comment applies more to the follow-up videos. Which are also good videos, if we keep in mind that these behaviours are universal, and not attached to any specific political view.

It's interesting how people can be capable of clearly and accurately describing behaviour of the opposition, while being unable to recognize their own biases.
I think the human minds greatest weakness is the inability to objectively view itself.

I'm pretty sure he addresses that point in this video, conceding that both parties are guilty, but focusing primarily on the alt right. I don't agree with everything this guy says, and he definitely does make some hypocritical derisive comments in later videos.

I totally get it though, it could very easily devolve into the whole echo chamber nonesense.

After watching a few videos into the series one big difference I see is that he tends advocating to not engage with people and to delete comments.

Here he shows deleting a comment that was harmless with "never be too proud to delete a comment": https://youtu.be/wmVkJvieaOA?t=693

This reminds me of this survey, according to which republican are by far more comfortable with the idea of having a roommate with different political beliefs than democrats are.

That's a better explanation of the alt-right than most journalists would provide. But the argument that you shouldn't engage the alt-right because some might go hack a twitter account is complete BS and seems more like an excuse.

I'm also curios if the uploader can see racism and sexism on the side of the mainstream-left and "alt-left" or if he believes in the redefinition of racism and sexism (racism is prejudice + power or confusing "majority privilege" with racism).

"Never be too proud to delete a comment" https://youtu.be/wmVkJvieaOA?t=693 From a video later into the series where he shows deleting a comment that's harmless.

Both the left and the right make use of bad rhetoric and uninformed arguments but that's the big difference between them, most popular youtubers on the right would not delete a equivalent comment. And republicans are by fare more willing to tolerate opposing viewpoints compared to democrats, here's a survey that demonstrates this.

Well sure.... The Republican isn't the one with disparaging comments being directed at them and their associates. They could be called a Nazi, but if that isn't true, then it should effect them.

Meanwhile, nigger, fag and mudslime gets thrown around and it's expected to have the same sort of nonchalant meaning, with much worse connantations.

Don't forget racist, misogynist, islamophobic, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, classist, ableist, authoritarian.... That's the list from the video itself and there are lot more disparaging things the left likes to say.

And the comment this guy showed himself deleting contained no insults or slurs, so their desire to not be confronted with different political beliefs goes likely beyond slurs.

and it's expected to have the same sort of nonchalant meaning, with much worse connantations.

While the mainstream and especially the mainstream left has absolutely no problem with nonchalantly saying things about whites or males that they would NEVER find even remotely acceptable to say about any other group.

Because either they redefined sexism and racism such that they themselves are exempt from it or they painted the other side as such evil monsters that everything is acceptable.

This becomes entirely obvious when you replace "men" or "whites" with "blacks", "jews" or "women", like this quick example: https://i.imgur.com/4klIkY7.png?1
