It an area that is certainly being researched for military use. I don't know if anything is being targeted at the public, but the tec is being researched.

I read once about a potential exploit found in operational software used on an american carrier. They learned that it would have been possible to remotely shut down the entire ship. After patching it, and discussing it elsewhere the Russians said something like, "Yeah, we've known about that one for a while, have you found the others?"
The Russians may have been messing with them, but maybe not.

Hackers are becoming key military assets. I don't mean Hollywood-hackers or Russian script-kiddies.
I mean Bell-labs kind of hacker.

I'd wager that it would be. Maybe as a last resort sort of thing, but our power grids seem to be wide open for this kind of attack. I'm no EE, but I'd wager a guess that it would be possible to pop some transformers with this. With the grid down, I'd imagine that would have some serious indirect effects on military.

We love talking about EMP's, but I've never head someone consider that the EMP could come from within the grid itself.

Bit of a tangent, but have you been following all the military craft that seem to be falling out of the sky during this last month? 2 F-18's and 2 c-130's have gone down. Two helicopters and a harrier as well. All Lockheed products in non-combat situations.

Makes me wonder.

I'd wager that it would be.

Would be, sure. I meant currently.

Not really. I remember hearing about something vague in Syria, and then a cargo(?) plane the other day.
It's got me wondering, mostly the jet. But there's no reliable info to work with. Now would be an ideal time for anyone to field test electronic countermeasures, so I wouldn't doubt it.
