I love how the title sounds so dire. Yet the article itself repeatedly states that the vast majority are going about procedures legally. The fact that they combine apprehensions to encounters only to inflate their numbers is giggle worthy as well.

I think the article is fairly clear that border communities and border agents are being overwhelmed by those claiming refugee status--whether it is illegal or legal doesn't diminish the crisis, so yes, it still is a dire situation. What is giggle worthy about vast numbers in migrant caravans that the communities and government are straining to process?

Most are from Central American countries and could have stopped in Mexico if this were truly only about escaping a corrupt police in in their home countries, but of course we all know they specifically want to come to the US for obvious reasons of higher salaries and benefits. Good luck finding out which of them are simply those seeking better economic circumstances (and thus not eligible for asylum) and which are persecuted and valid asylum seekers. Given the extreme corruption, violence, and poverty in Central American countries, the distinction between those two may not really even make sense.
