Chamber President Leron Gubler tells the Los Angeles Times the chamber has never removed a star because each is considered part of the walk’s “historic fabric.”

Given how fast we tend to move, tear down old things to build new things, it could be described as historically significant.

50 years ago, it was 1968. We hadn't landed on the moon, the personal computer wasn't a thing, the internet hadn't been dreamed of, people were writing magazine articles about autonomous cars, Star Trek had only been around for 2 years, etc ad naseum.

"In Europe 100 miles is a long way, In the US 100 years is a long time"
And they're both wrong.
